Jack Grover goes back to prison
Surely, there is a God!
The Supreme Court of Canada today reinstated Jack Grover’s obstruction of justice conviction, ruling that the Saskatchewan Court of Appeals was wrong to overturn the guilty verdict. Grover was charged following a deadly fire in one of his properties which left two children dead and an adult man suffering permanent brain damage. In June of 2006, Grover was found guilty of falsifying smoke detector maintenance records. On August 31 he was sentenced to serve one year in prison for his actions but he was released the following December when the conviction was set aside by the provincial appeals court.
Grover has a lengthy history of problems related to his real estate holdings which include single family homes and apartment buildings in Saskatoon. In one five year period over 30 fires were reported at his properties. He’s been convicted of making a false or misleading statement, obstruction of justice, as well as other infractions under the Fire Prevention Act and Saskatoon’s fire bylaws. This is the first conviction which came with a prison sentence. Sadly, it’s far too short.

Judging solely by first hand accounts coming from other tenants who were in the same building as me…Another man whose surname starts with “Me” and ends in “nke” makes himself an easy target for all sorts of negligence.
People like this should get the maximum. I can’t stress how infuriating this is. There is no room to be arbitrary about quality of life.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for being so dicreet.
Negligence? Hmmm. Makes me wonder if there is a civil case to be made. The criminal justice does seem pretty light given the loss of two young kids.

These slimebags know exactly what to do to cover their asses as they skirt the razor sharp and lucrative edges of sustained lack of quality and personal preference.
It makes me spit I swear. These greasy f!cks drive me up the wall because they play the quality of other peoples’ lives like any other investment game. Just a series of tweakable factors that only need to be maintained when the opportunity arises to squeeze tenants just a little bit more.
Never once are they concerned with the wellbeing of others. To me, these are some of the most despicable people in our society and do more harm to our reputation as a nation than street gangs. These wealthy and protected criminals are no better than the investors who see to it that demand rises sharply and cost continues to go up with it.
Again, if the statement didn’t get me branded as a communist (as I truthfully recognize it’s shortcomings!), I’d tell ya… I hate capitalism and all it’s bucketheads.
Insecure and petty.

Wow…. great blog Norm and relevant points listed above. I too feel that the sentence handed to Mr. Grover was light and reflective of Justice at one of its many worst moments. I soon realized I was misinformed. You may be aware but just in case, I have been informed that the sentence he rec’d was solely for falsifying (or attempting to…. however you want to look at it)the smoke alarm records, nothing to do with the loss of the children. That investigation continues and charges are foreseeable in the future – God willing….

Alex,
We can always count out you to “spit.”
It is sad that one can be content to encourage others to live in absolute squalor and make a buck doing it.
S’toon Girl,
Thanks, I was aware that these charges were related to the falsified fire alarm inspection records but I had no idea that an investigation was continuing which could lead to other charges. It seemed almost obvious that sooner or later someone would be killed in one of these properties. It will be interesting to see if the law has any teeth to do anything about neglect. Everyone should have a safe place to live.

I have to agree Norm, sooner or later its going to result in someone dying. One year seems a bit light considering the charges.
