Central Business District

Otherwise known as downtown Saskatoon, the Central Business District was originally home to the Canadian National Railway (CNR). Retail shops and services sprung up around the rail operations and eventually became the primary draw to the area. Today, the Midtown Plaza, Saskatoon’s largest shopping mall sits on the CNR site and is built in its image.

The downtown core of Saskatoon has seen steady and significant improvement over the past decade and has once again become a destination place for citizens of Saskatoon. You’ll find an excellent selection of restaurants, from casual to fine dining and a number of popular night spots. The Central Business District is also home to Saskatoon’s Arts and Convention Centre TCU Place, Persephone Theatre and River Landing.

At the east end of the area discover beautiful Kiwanis Park and Friendship Park, both bordering the river valley and offering stunning views of Nutana, Varsity View and the University of Saskatchewan campus. On this side of the lovely river valley, you’ll appreciate some of Saskatoon’s finest architecture in landmark buildings like the Bessborough Hotel, St. John’s Cathedral and St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.

Residential development in the downtown core is largely limited to condominiums from entry-level apartments to luxury suites in a few high-rise building are converted warehouse lofts.

For anyone looking into purchasing in central business district of Saskatoon, I have to suggest that you do it and here’s why:

Downtown is a wonderful place to live. Where ever you purchase a place in downtown you will be within a very short walking distance of the riverbank (every weekend there is an event on the river bank in the summer), numerous restaurants, numerous clothing stores and the mall. Walking downtown is nice anytime of year and I really enjoy it.

They have done quite a bit in my opinion to revitalize downtown in the recent years and it shows. Tens years ago downtown was dead at night, but now you look around and there are people all over and the nightlife is by far the best in all of the city; there is no where else that compares, there are so many spots to have a good time any night of the week (Galaxy theater, numerous awesome restaurants, numerous local type and upscale lounges and a wide variety of clubs).

Also with River Landing being developed, it will only add to attraction and atmosphere of downtown.

There seems to be a growing consensus that Saskatchewan is poised for growth and several economists expect our province to lead in 2012. Is economic growth a good thing? Here's an interesting perspective.
