Wendy,

Thanks for the comment.

"The lazy ones still get their listings but..."

This is what's amazing to me. Samples of our work are easily accessed online. Maybe people don't think about it until it's too late but I would be checking out samples of an agent's listings online before I signed a contract.

The answer is lazy. There are a few Real Estate agents names out that most sellers and buyers recognize. They are the ones that work hardest for their clients with full advertising, pictures, descriptions. The lazy ones still get their listings but they are the ones that give the agents their bad reputations. Easy money, just get listings. When a buyer and a seller get frustrated because they are not getting what they will be paying for, then that is when SaskHouses come in. Homes are always posted with descriptions and photos on there and the seller knows their home the best.

I am a fellow agent in Saskatoon real estate. I'm not hear to boost myself but i do agree 100% with Norm. It happens far too often with the caliber of homes on the market today. With clients liken it to a fashion designer who does not just have models walk down the isle while he's still stitching dresses in the back, they always "launch" their lineup of new fashions, just as an agent should with their new listings.

Having sold a home this summer it was very time consuming looking for a new place when alot of listings had no photo available. Most I skipped over and never bothered to call, and the ones that did grab my interest and had no photo, I called the agent and asked where the pictures were ? After all, if you want 500 k of my hard earned $$$, you better have up to date photo's available immediatley. If you are too busy to do this, hire an assistant to do this for you. I will be house shopping again this spring and those homes with pictures will receive a second look.

Bookrat,

Though I did "speak directly to other real estate agents" in this post, potential sellers are the intended recipient of the message. On any given day it seems that twenty to fifty percent of new listings can fall prey to this negligence. If it's that prevalent I feel that sellers must be either unaware that it's happening or unaware of the opportunity that's being missed. There's an opportunity for me to say, "Here's what happens, here's how it hurts you, and here's a couple of ways you can be sure it doesn't happen to you."

Let me also add that I would not object to a huge boost in professionalism for the real estate industry. It would be good for consumers and real estate brokers and agents.

Nate,

Thanks. Always good to hear some real feedback from a home buyer.

Right on the money. This was very frustrating for us, and I can't think of a single time I bothered to find out more about a listing that didn't have a photo or many details.

Bookrat: Norm's got many tricks, real competition would need to do more than this :D

Honest question, Norm: why are you trying to teach other realtors how to do their job better? Are you in dire need of more competition or something?
