Perhaps you’ve already heard that it’s Realtor® Community Safety Week in Saskatoon. If you haven’t, let it be known that His Worship Mayor Donald Atchison has declared it so, and so it is.

You’ll be reminded that it’s Realtor® Community Safety Week by a series of safety tips airing on C95FM and Rock102. I’ve also noticed some service announcements in the Star Phoenix. The highlight event for the week is a Neighbourhood Safety Fair that happens on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. It will be held at Sonnenschein Way, just south of the Farmer’s Market. If you can find the time, it’s probably worth attending. Apparently, there will be children’s activities and prizes, self-defense demonstrations, home safety products and lots of good safety related information.

Whether or not you can attend you should check out a free publication that’s being offered by the City of Saskatoon. It’s called “Safe at Home” and it contains about a dozen pages of great tips for staying safe in your community and in your home. Please read it and be safe, this week and every other.

Saskatchewan Federation of Indian Nations Pow-Wow 2007

If you have some spare time on your hands this weekend, you might consider spending some of it at the Credit Union Centre, where the Saskatchewan Federation of Indian Nations (FSIN) is hosting Pow-Wow 2007. Five bucks will get you through the door, and provide an opportunity to experience a truly beautiful “cultural celebration” expressed through song and dance with the people of Saskatchewan’s First Nations.

If you’ve never been to a pow-wow, you’re in for a real treat with this one as hundreds of singers and dancers pack the venue to honour residential school survivors and compete for over $80,000 in prize money. This really is a great Saskatoon event.

October 9^th to 12^th is Affordable Housing Week in Saskatoon. Presented by the Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership, Affordable Housing Week presents a variety of events in support of “attractive, affordable, innovative, sustainable and green housing initiatives in Saskatoon.”

Early bird tickets for 2007 Juno Awards in Saskatoon go on sale

Early bird tickets for the 2007 Juno Awards, which will be hosted in Saskatoon on Sunday, April 1st, go on sale this morning at 10:00 am. Anticipating a quick sellout of only 500 packages being made available, orders will be taken by phone (938-7800 or 1-800-970-7328) or they can be ordered online through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca. The packages will sell for $197.25 with a limit of four per person. Each package includes entry to three events; the awards show (standing room), the JunoFest band showcase which will be presented on March 30 and 31 at various Saskatoon nightclubs and the Songwriter’s Circle happening April 1.

Individual tickets for the awards show go on sale February 10 at 10:00am through Ticketmaster and will range in price from $80 to $150, with a limit of four being made available to each person.

This year’s Juno Awards is hosted by Nelly Furtado. Confirmed performers include rockers Billy Talent and Three Days Grace.
