Theme change for the North Park “graffiti wall”

The North Park “graffiti wall” takes on a new life as artists work at a theme change from Where the Wild Things Are to “Old Town Cartoons.” Every other year, the home owner who erected the privately owned concrete sound attenuation wall at Warman Road and Empress invites select graffiti artists to ply their skills and display their work along one of Saskatoon’s busiest traffic corridors.

What was initially a concern for a community taken by surprise seems to have become a cherished neighbourhood treasure as evidenced by dozens of honking cars and waving drivers who showed their support as artists diligently worked at the transformation today.

A few more at my flickr.

There’s a great gallery of the previous theme, Where the Wild Things Are, at the Digital Expressions blog if you haven’t had the chance to see it.

Check out our North Park neighbourhood profile.

I hope that you’re enjoying this gorgeous Saskatoon weekend.

Norm

Hi, I am looking for a talented Graffiti artist to come in to do a presentation/workshop with some local teens in our small town library. we want to bring literacy and art together in this wonderfully creative way. The kids will do their favorite novel/character/scene in graffiti! But we need some guidence and direction. If you can help me out with some names or somewhere I can locate someone that would be great.
    thanks

    T. Voldeng,

I don’t have any graffiti contacts personally but the guy who owns the fence I photographed certainly would. If you’d like to leave me some contact info here http://www.teamfisher.com/contact-norm-fisher/ I’d be happy to drop a note in his mailbox in hopes that he might call and give you some direction.

Why was the tag of the artist, the one who painted the Care Bears wall, found freshly sprayed on the back of a 7th Avenue business in the last week of July 2011? And why is there a silver label on the front of that business (professionally made label btw) with that artists (plus another person) name on it (and a biohazard logo)? The manager of that business has been notified of the silver label and that the tag on the back of his store matches the artists tag from the wall. Thanks!

because its still graffitti and some great artists such as these spend there own money on paint and other supplies and risk alot to put nice artwork around the city.like or not its not going to stop anytime soon, like it or not, alot of people like it.
