First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) president Shauneen Pete announced today that the Saskatoon campus would be offered for sale as part of a restructuring plan to save the beleaguered college which is facing financial challenges after the provincial and federal governments pulled funding amid allegations of questionable spending by senior officials. The province has since restored funding, but at this point only a portion if the federal funds have been restored.
The Saskatoon campus, located at Duke and Seventh in City Parkis the location of the university’s original campus and has been in operation since 1976. There are approximately 200 students studying at the campus today.
Saying that cuts were “necessary,” Pete announced that the Saskatoon campus would immediately be offered for sale and layoff notices were issued to the college’s Saskatoon teachers. Some cutbacks to faculty and staff will also be made on the Regina and Prince Albert campuses.
